In FWS you will use WordPress to publish final work from four fact-checks, three responses in Unit 2, and one final project in Unit 3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To begin:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Go to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/wordpress.com\/\">WordPress.com<\/a>. (Note: if you already use WordPress, you can log in and add a site.)<\/li><li>If you\u2019re making a new site, don\u2019t worry about any of the screens until you get to one that asks you to create a URL (coolname.wordpress.com).\u00a0<\/li><li>Copy and paste it along with your name in\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"this spreadsheet (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/14kAq_F6P738I17Nh8X4h90Qu6NXnCed5fIno2Ha5lBY\/edit?usp=sharing\" target=\"_blank\">this spreadsheet<\/a>. <em>Note<\/em>: your URL does\u00a0<strong>NOT<\/strong>\u00a0start with wordpress.com; it starts with your blog name (i.e. coolname.wordpress.com). Adding your URL to the spreadsheet allows me, and others in the class, to find your blog easily.<\/li><li>Start playing around. You can begin by deciding on a\u00a0<strong>theme<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>customizations<\/strong>, which control most of the options for the overall design of your site. You can also start designing content by adding an\u00a0<strong>About Me<\/strong>\u00a0page (choose &#8220;add page&#8221;) and customizing a banner. <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>*I\u2019ll begin to show you how to build your own site in class today. However, one of the consistently great resources you can use this summer is <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Lynda.com (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/it.cornell.edu\/lynda\" target=\"_blank\">Lynda.com<\/a>, a high-quality, video-based tutorial site that Cornell pays a hefty fee to subscribe to. The fact that you can have a free account to Lynda is a real perk of being a college student here. To use it make an account at\u00a0Lynda.com\u00a0using your Cornell credentials. Once you\u2019re in, you can search for different videos, courses, and other content.
